A Warm Welcome to My Kitchen

diet-clip2Skinny Girl Bistro is a journey in discovering and implementing a new way of eating and enjoying food.  It’s not a diet; it’s a lifestyle, because you can’t just change your eating to lose weight and expect to maintain it if you don’t change the whole way you think about food.  It’s taken me many years to learn this and I hope that my experiences – and the delicious recipes that I am posting on this blog – will help you to find an easier way along this path to a healthier and slimmer you.

I adore the taste of food and I embrace many cultures of cooking, but it’s a fact that many things that taste so good are not necessarily foods that our bodies use efficiently.  Our metabolic burners are not set the same so some people naturally burn more calories and carbohydrates than others.  Learning how many carbohydrates your body actually uses in a day is, I believe, a key to making a low carb lifestyle really successful.  Once you find your key net carb level, the number of actual nutritional carbs a day that your body uses, you have the secret to weight loss and maintaining that loss.  Every person needs to experiment to find what foods work best with their own bodies and it sometimes (many times) won’t be the foods that you like the best.

So part of what this blog is about is the process of substituting other, lower carb foods, for those that are not compatible with your health plan.  For instance, potatoes, rice, corn and pasta are all higher in carbohydrates than you might want, or be able to use, in one day, so there are other foods that you can substitute in and still get satisfaction from eating.   I am offering some other choices in this area as I go along on my journey of weight loss and maintaining that loss.

And that’s the other part of the reason for the blog.  It helps keep me on track as well as continually adapting recipes to a lower carb version. I’m inviting you to follow along on this path, use the recipes if they sound good to you and let me know your thoughts on the foods, how you like the recipes, just whatever you think about what I’m talking about.  Low carb living doesn’t have to be boring – it can be a great food adventure.

Under my Book Nook page, you will find information and links to the various cookbooks I’ve put out.
